She is  the SCAMS Officer there and will talk to us about this very current topic.  \nAnyone can fall prey to a scam\, regardless of age\, gender\, education or economic background. The average age of victims is 74 as criminals tend to target older and often more vulnerable members of society. Scammers are organised\, predatory criminals who gain trust to exploit and steal money. Over a three-month period\, victims of scams in Sussex lost an average of £23\,000 each. \nPlease come if you can.

Come along to our afternoon open event at the Bexhill Bandstand on the Seafront and have a chat. \nWe provide peer support to all people with diabetes and are all diabetes sufferers ourselves. \nBexhil Coronation Bandstand\nWe can provide useful knowledge as well as good ideas to help our members manage their condition better with advice from interesting professional speakers at our regular monthly meetings. \nThe Committee try to theme each meeting. The professional Speaker giving a talk leading to a discussion on aspects of improving members diabetes lifestyle. We also offer a Community Car service for medical appointments as well as our Dial-A-Ride. Day Centres for the Elderly complete our range of services. The Meeting is on Tuesday 12th March 2024. \n See you all at Amherst Road Sports & Social Club (old Bexhill Conservative Club)\, 6a Amherst Road\, Bexhill on Sea TN40 1QJ \nSpeaker Details-\n Shani Adams\, Diabetic Eye Screening Deputy Programme Manager From  NHS Retinopathy\, Bexhill Hospital \n This will be a very important and interesting session with Shani and Claire who will engage us with all the latest information and advice on the subject and life at Bexhill Hospital. Please come if you can. \nDiabetic retinopathy is one of the most common causes of blindness in the Western world and as there may not be any symptoms\, it is very important that screening takes place. \nAnyone who has diabetes and is aged 12 or over should be screened. People with diabetes could be at risk of retinopathy (damage to the small blood vessels in the eyes causing them to bleed and leak fluid). Unless they are screened they may not know this is happening until it is too late and have some sight loss. \n“If you are a diabetic and are already under the Eye Department and regularly having your retina checked\, then please let us know. We will see you once you are discharged from hospital.”

DESCRIPTION:All welcome to our monthly meeting. We have a different speaker each month\, with a few favourite speakers returning and some interesting new speakers. Plenty of chat\, a raffle and tea & biscuits. \nThis monthe we  have the Medical Detection Dogs Charity- Jonathan Goddard. https://www.medicaldetectiondogs.org.uk/. Confirmed. \nJonathan Goddard\, your speaker\, was a former Sussex Police officer and Government Intelligence officer. In 1998 he suffered a serious road accident which led to him becoming a insulin dependent type 1 diabetic.  After nearly 10 years of being a diabetic he started loosing the ability to tell what his sugar levels were doing. (Hypo unaware). \nIn 2013 Jonathan discovered the amazing charity Medical Detection Dogs and 3 years later was paired with his yellow labrador Ralph. \nJonathan will talk about the work the charity does\,  not only in respect of Diabetes and will tell you his story of his amazing partnership and journey with Ralph\,  who of course will be present. \nThere will be an opportunity to meet Ralph and ask any questions re the charities work.
