About Bexhill Caring Community…“We are a team of staff dedicated to offering a multitude of services for the elderly, housebound and lonely of all ages, including volunteer befrienders, a free home library service for the housebound, the sale of equipment aids and form filling. We also have an approved list of self-employed outworkers for odd jobs, cleaning and gardening as well as domiciliary carers. We also offer a Community Car service for medical appointments as well as our Dial-A-Ride bus for trips around town. If you would like an information pack on all the services we provide, including a membership application form, please contact our office.

“I hope you are well. I have finally got ethics approval for my research project. Would it be possible to attend your Diabetes support group In July (?14th). Please find a short introduction to put in your newsletter below:

Hi, my name is Paul, I am a Paramedic Practitioner working in a GP surgery in East Sussex specialising in Diabetes Management. I am currently working on my dissertation for my Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice and will be speaking to your group regarding a research project I am undertaking.

I will be looking for participants to undertake a short interview asking for their views on how their diabetes self-management has been affected by the current cost of living crisis. The project will be submitted as my dissertation and also submitted for possible publication within a UK health journal. All information given will be confidential. It is hoped that if published the results will illustrate an accurate record of lived experiences for patients with diabetes during a time of spiralling living costs, providing a basis for future health and social care policy decisions.

Full details of the project will be discussed and any queries answered at the talk. Participant information sheets will also be provided for you to take away and read, before making a decision to participate.

Neighbourhood Policing Team – Roy Collins

The Rother Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPTs) serves Bexhill, focusing on community engagement, high-visibility patrols, and tackling antisocial behaviour and drug-related crime.

Local Policing is organised into 3 divisions, each comprising Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) based within district teams. NPTs provide community engagement, foot patrols and assist local and partnership problem-solving.

NPTs are led by a District Commander and comprise sergeants, police officers and PCSOs.

These work with youth, licensing and enforcement officers. Also, investigators, specialists, and police staff within divisions and across Sussex Police support NPTs to protect communities and catch criminals.

Proposal To Close the GP Practice on Sea Road in Bexhill

We also have Dawn Bamforth from NHS Sussex coming to talk to us about the proposed closure of the Sea Road Surgery. The objective is to explain the proposals and obtain members views on this difficult and possibly contentious proposal.

“Though a patient survey has already been completed, a decision on whether to approve this application has been paused until we are able to hear more from local residents about the effect this closure may have on them and whether there are any actions that could be taken to mitigate any negative impact.”

A Voluntary Home Visiting Service for Blind & Partially Sighted people in Bexhill and surrounding areas.

Homecall was established in February 1985 to recruit, select, train and support volunteer visitors for a home visiting scheme. Our volunteers help the substantially visually impaired maintain their independence and relieve their social isolation by enabling access to the community.

Claire will talk about Homecall and their services such as

Reading and writing correspondence, newsletters and books
Attending appointments and occasional shopping trips together
Help with day-to-day financial administration
Support to attend clubs, societies, and social events
Help to access other services, e.g. the local blind society, Social Services or Age Concern
Day to day tasks, e.g. threading a needle or finding lost items

Our Speaker this month is Emma Diplock, HCPC Registered Podiatrist,First Contact Practitioner – Podiatry.

Emma will discuss the care pathways, referral, how to help yourself and with self-referral and so on

Diabetes management
Managing foot complications related to diabetes, such as peripheral vascular disease (PVD), neuropathy and ulceration.

Wound care
Treating and managing chronic wounds and ulcers of the foot and ankle.

Musculoskeletal (MSK)
Providing care for a variety of issues relating to muscles, bones and joints.

Nail surgery
Performing minor surgical procedures to treat nail conditions such as ingrown toenails.

Orthotics
Providing and fitting custom orthotic devices to correct foot deformities and improve function.

Patient education
Advising patients on footcare, footwear choices, and preventative measures to maintain foot health.

As part of the Bexhill PCN they offer a highly Specialised Podiatrist service who can assess, diagnose and treat complex foot complaints. This can be anything from musculoskeletal foot complaints to the high-risk foot, general foot pain, wound care, in-growing toenails and general foot concerns.

BEXHILL DAY- Saturday 16th August 2025

celebrating Bexhill Day, first introduced to the town in 1917, before being reintroduced by the newly formed Town Council in 2021. The celebration has traditionally taken place on or around the 20th of August; correspondingly, this year’s Bexhill Day will be held on Saturday, August 16th, from10am until 3pm.

Bexhill Day in 2025 will be held on Saturday, August 16th 2025. It’s a day to celebrate the town of Bexhill-on-Sea, and local community groups, organizations, and charities are encouraged to participate by showcasing their work. The event will include a variety of activities, demonstrations, and giveaways.

We will have a stand there so please pop along if you can.

“Bexhill Town Council is pleased to announce that we will continue the tradition of celebrating Bexhill Day, first introduced to the town in 1917, before being reintroduced by the newly formed Town Council in 2021.
